This database also contains water cation and anion data for recent AVO studies. This website allows users to query the database and return datasets as fully-documented .html or .csv tables. It is our intention to update this dataset as new volcano-related geochemical data is published. Purpose: The DGGS Volcanology Section conducts geologic studies of active volcanoes and provides this information, along with volcano monitoring observations, to both scientists and the public, in a web-based, searchable format allowing for rapid, interagency, fact-based decision making to efficiently communicate volcano hazard information and science to a worldwide audience. Alaska Volcano Observatory's geochemical database contains published whole-rock data for Quaternary volcanic rocks in Alaska, linked to geologist, publication, source volcano (where possible), and other sample and analysis metadata. Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Although we have made an extensive effort to provide the best data possible for each sample and analysis-often locating little-used references and untangling changing sample nomenclatures through time-we expect that routine use of the database will still uncover some errors. We ask users to please let us know of any they might find (cheryl.cameron@alaska.gov), and to always check the original reference as the final authority. We encourage users to read database documentation (https://www.avo.alaska.edu/geochem/help.php) for a comprehensive discussion of data entry protocols. Logical_Consistency_Report: not applicable Completeness_Report: Development of this database is ongoing. It is our intention to update this dataset as new volcano-related geochemical data is published. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Locations were determined based on 1) coordinate values listed on the publication, digitized from the published map, or loaded from a digital spreadsheet; 2) personal correspondence or unpublished field maps or notes provided by the originator; or 3) if no sample-specific location is available, the default location of the volcano itself. Consequently, location certainty varies considerably throughout the dataset. Users requiring highly accurate locations for their area of interest should consult the originating data source or reference to determine if the location certainty is within acceptable parameters. All locations were converted to the NAD83 coordinate system. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: Geologic Database of Information on Volcanoes in Alaska - DGGS Volcanology Section staff design, populate, maintain, and distribute the Geologic Database of Information on Volcanoes in Alaska (GeoDIVA). GeoDIVA maintains complete, flexible, timely, and accurate geologic and geographic information on Quaternary (Pleistocene and younger) volcanoes in Alaska. This data supports scientific investigation, crisis response, and public information in a dynamic, digital format. GeoDIVA is the most comprehensive and up-to-date source of information for Alaska volcanoes available. This database is also the back-end of the public and internal websites of AVO. GeoDIVA has been developed in modules and grows by continual feeding of new data into existing modules and by episodic surges of growth as new modules come on line. The Alaska Volcano Observatory Geochemical Database module was released in 2014 as Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys Digital Data Series 8.
