Title:
Engineering-geologic database of the proposed Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System (ANGTS) corridor from Prudhoe Bay to Delta Junction, Alaska
Abstract:
This publication is a 6 CD-ROM compilation of data describing the bedrock, surficial, and engineering geology of a portion of the proposed Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System corridor. Maps or reports with scales of 1:250,000 or greater that cross or come within 5 miles of the centerline were included in this compilation. Two maps with scales smaller than 1:250,000 were also included: OFR 82-1071 and OFR 98-133. A complete bibliography of references used in this compilation is on the first CD-ROM of this project in ANGTSgis/RefsCited.doc. This project consists of an ArcView 3.x (AV) .apr file and a Microsoft Access 2000 (MS Access) database. The ArcView project and the Access database are linked using AccessLink, which runs from ArcView. A free, limited version of AccessLink is included with this compilation on the first CD-ROM in ANGTSgis/Extras/AccessLinkLTD.avx. This version of the ANGTS AV project and MS Access database covers the area from Prudhoe Bay to Delta Junction. Scanned versions of documents or maps are linked to the AV 3.x project and to the Access database.

ANGTS route (ANGTS.shp) - A line shapefile showing the route of the proposed Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System. This shapefile was obtained from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Land Records Information Section (LRIS). The route of the ANGTS was received from the Alaska Joint Pipeline Office as a series of blueline maps at 1:1,000 scale. The maps appear to have an aerial photograph base with protracted township grids and the pipeline route overlayed. This file was re-projected to decimal degrees for display in ArcView 3.x.

Why was the data set created?

This compilation was developed to provide engineering geology information in support of the construction of an Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System. This project builds on a previous compilation of Dalton Highway engineering geology and materials sites for the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF). The Access database portion of this project uses the unpublished DOT&PF Materials Site database as a foundation and as a baseline of information concerning materials site locations and data in the northern region of Alaska.

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: 2001 (process 1 of 113)
The paper copy of this map was scanned at 300 - 400 dpi and then georeferenced in ArcGIS 8.1. This map was georeferenced in its appropriate UTM projection. Four or more points were selected for georeferencing; after georeferencing, the image was rectified using ArcGIS 8.1 or ArcINFO. The RMS error for this map is unknown, but is suspected to be in the tens of meters.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

This publication compiles engineering-geologic data between Prudhoe Bay and Delta Junction, Alaska, along the proposed Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System route. This publication supercedes the preliminary version of this report, MP 124. Maps referred to in the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System (ANGTS) Engineering Geology database from the DOT&PF Materials Site database have not been scanned into this project. No updates to this project are planned.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

Polygon shapefiles of map extents associated with this shapefile are not precise map extents and are intended as only a rough guide concerning map location. Polygon shapefiles associated with this project probably have good topology.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?

Are there legal restrictions on access or use of the data?

Access_Constraints:
This report has not been reviewed for technical content or for conformity to the editorial standards of the DGGS. Files associated with the Engineering-Geology Database of the Proposed Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System Corridor from Prudhoe Bay to Delta Junction, Alaska project are available directly from the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (see contact information).
Use_Constraints:
Any hardcopies or published data sets utilizing these data sets shall clearly indicate their source. If the user has modified the data in any way they are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have performed. User specifically agrees not to misrepresent these data sets, nor to imply that changes they made were approved by the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys.

In no event will the State of Alaska be liable for any incidental, indirect, special, consequential, or other damages suffered by the user or any other person or entity whether from the use of the electronic services or products, any failure thereof, or otherwise, and in no event will the State of Alaska's liability to the requester or anyone else exceed the fee paid for the electronic service or product.

  4. How can I download or order the data?

  5. What hardware or software do I need in order to use the data set?

Requires a personal computer with ArcView 3.x and Microsoft Access 2000 (per funding requirements). It is suggested that MapInfo users import ESRI shape files (if provided) due to the possibility of data loss when importing Arc Export .e00 files. Please check the MapInfo web site (<http://www.mapinfo.com/>) for the latest documentation on importing Arc Export and/or ESRI shape files.
