Preparing for an Emergency

Preparing for an Emergency

Living in Alaska means you could be affected by many different types of geologic hazards, such as volcanoes, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, and more. See our guide to geologic hazards for more information. And don't forget, a disaster can happen in the middle of winter when it is cold, snowy, and dark!

Before an emergency happens, do you know what to have ready? Do you know what to do? Thinking about emergencies ahead of time and practicing what to do will help you react and make good decisions fast when something scary happens.

Your family can work together to prepare for a disaster. It is a good idea to put together a disaster kit that is ready to grab in an emergency. Don't forget those Alaska winter items that you will need to stay warm.

Try your hand at these games created by FEMA for practice and ideas about preparing for emergencies: Disaster Master, Build a Disaster Kit, and Disaster Hero.
