Chief, Volcanology Section - Chris is a volcanologist with more than 30 years experience on active Alaska volcanoes. His primary expertise is in geology, petrology, and geochemistry, but he is always aware that among the principal joys and challenges of volcanology is that it is multidisciplinary. Seismic, geodetic, and remote-sensing data must also be carefully considered in order to understand how volcanoes work, which is a prerequisite to good monitoring and hazards mitigation.
