Title:
Kuskokwim airborne magnetic and radiometric geophysical survey, northern Kuskokwim Mountains
Abstract:
Kuskokwim airborne magnetic and radiometric geophysical survey, northern Kuskokwim Mountains, Geophysical Report 2023-1, covers parts of the Tanana, Norton Bay, Nulato, Ruby, Kantishna River, Medfra, and Mt. McKinley quadrangles west of Nenana, Alaska (fig. 1). Magnetic and radiometric data were collected with a fixed-wing aircraft from May 14 to August 31, 2023, by MPX Geophysics LTD. The survey contains a single block. A total of 86,712 line-kilometers were collected. The block covers 29,361 km2. The magnetometer was mounted to a rear-facing fixed boom ("tail stinger"). The radiometric crystals were located in the cabin of the aircraft. The block was flown with a line spacing of 400 m. The mean ground clearance is 184 m. The data, as well as additional metadata, are available from the DGGS website: http://doi.org/10.14509/31087.

Why was the data set created?

The data from the Kuskokwim airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, northern Kuskokwim Mountains geophysical survey will be used to improve the understanding of the area's geology and mineral potential and promote resource exploration. This survey will also be a part of planned continuous regional magnetic data coverage of the greater Kuskokwim Mountains region.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?
  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?
    Date: 2023 (process 1 of 2)
Data collection, processing, and delivery - The airborne geophysical data were acquired under contract with MPX Geophysics Ltd. Airborne geophysical data for the areas were acquired and processed by MPX Geophysics Ltd. The contractor's project report and other supporting documents are in the 'documents' digital data package. They provide detailed documentation of the system specifications, data collection, processing, and delivery.
    Date: 2023 (process 2 of 2)
Data cataloged for archival and publication - Final data were published and archived by DGGS.
  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?
Geophysical data were acquired according to the contractor, contract, and request-for-proposals specifications. For additional detail about survey parameters, see the accompanying project report available in the documents directory of this data distribution package.
  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?
Station coordinates were positioned using a real-time or post-processed corrected differential GPS.
  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?
    Not applicable
  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?
This data set includes files that contain processed aeromagnetic measurements, radiometric measurements, altimetry measurements, and locational data for the entire survey area. The data release is complete.
  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?
Data originate from one company using DGGS contract specifications for all data (see accompanying project report). The originating coordinate system was retained for all publication products.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?
