The map authors thank Chuck Hawley and Ms. Cindy Buxton of Kennecott Exploration Inc. for sharing their extensive knowledge of the geology of the Gold Hill and Aurora Creek areas. Allison Till (U.S. Geological Survey) spent two days with the mapping crew during the 1993 field season and demonstrated a defendable, metamorphic lithostratigraphy for the Nome Group in the western Solomon Quadrangle. Tom Sparks of Bering Straits Native Corporation and Irene Anderson of Sitnausuk Corporation helped secure and provide logistical services during our studies. Joe Fisher kindly allowed access to Alaska Gold Company lands in the Nome district. This map was converted to GeMS or digitized into GeMS by Lars Arneson of Kinney Engineering, LCC., quality controlled, and then finalized by DGGS staff (Chris Wyatt and Mike Hendricks). Geologic map conversion to the GeMS standard was funded by the USGS National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program under award number G21AP10329 and the State of Alaska General Fund. The Nome mining district geologic mapping project was undertaken as a result of a Capital Improvements Project appropriation passed by the 1993 Alaska Legislature to begin detailed geological and mineral resource investigations of Alaskan mining districts using airborne, multispectral geophysical surveys, and 1:63,360-scale geological mapping.
