Online_Linkage: http://dx.doi.org/10.14509/27021 Description: Abstract: This publication provides mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data for 36 outcrop samples collected from the Kaguyak, Naknek, and West Foreland formations in the Iniskin Peninsula region of Cook Inlet. The publication files provide: sample names, coordinates, and the formation from which samples were collected; per-sample pore aperture size distribution charts; formation pore volume graphs and data; pore system properties of each formation from which samples were analyzed; and correspondence from PetroTech Associates describing the methods used in MICP analyses of the samples, and a brief summary of the data Purpose: This publication provides mercury injection capillary pressure data for 36 outcrop samples collected from the Kaguyak, Naknek, and West Foreland formations in the Iniskin Peninsula region of Cook Inlet. It was produced as product of the Cook Inlet basin analysis program. The Cook Inlet program is aimed at developing a better understanding of the near-margin stratigraphic and structural components of the Cook Inlet petroleum system Supplemental_Information: The DGGS metadata standard extends the FGDC standard to include elements that are required to facilitate our internal data management. These elements, referred to as "layers," group and describe files that have intrinsic logical or topological relationships and correspond to subdirectories within the data distribution package. The metadata layer provides the metadata, project border files, or other documentation files. Attribute information for each data layer is described in this metadata file under the "Entity_and_Attribute_Information" section. Data layer contents: >border: extent of map area or, when no map area is specified, a polygon that encompasses the maximum geographic extent of the data observations >sample-location-details: A CSV file with sample reference numbers, latitude, longitude, and map units >micp-data: Excel spreadsheets that provide the raw data values generated by each capillary pressure measurement. PetroTech provides one file for each individual sample; file names correspond to Lab_Sample_Number values listed in the sample-location-details table >micp-summary: Excel spreadsheets with summary data (pore volume plots and pore aperture size distribution plots) for the samples analyzed. For the tables and figures in the report, the samples are separated into three groups: (1) the Kaguyak Formation, Saddle Mountain area, (2) Naknek Formation, lower sandstone member, and (3) the remaining Naknek Formation samples (Chisik Conglomerate, Pomeroy, and Snug Harbor Siltstone) and a West Foreland Formation sample Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Single_Date/Time: Calendar_Date: 2014 Currentness_Reference: ground condition Status: Progress: complete Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: None planned Spatial_Domain: Bounding_Coordinates: West_Bounding_Coordinate: -153.41707 East_Bounding_Coordinate: -152.89514 North_Bounding_Coordinate: 59.88267 South_Bounding_Coordinate: 59.64309 Keywords: Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: ISO 19115 Topic Category Theme_Keyword: geoscientificInformation Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys Theme_Keyword: Analyses Theme_Keyword: Analyses and Sampling Theme_Keyword: Analytical Results Theme_Keyword: Energy Theme_Keyword: Gas Basins Theme_Keyword: Geologic Theme_Keyword: Geology Theme_Keyword: Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure Analysis Theme_Keyword: Oil Basins Theme_Keyword: Oil and Gas Theme_Keyword: Oil and Gas Basin Theme_Keyword: Outcrop Samples Theme_Keyword: Permeability Theme_Keyword: Petroleum Basin Study Theme_Keyword: Porosity Theme_Keyword: Reservoir Theme_Keyword: Reservoir Evaluation Theme_Keyword: Reservoir Quality Theme_Keyword: Resources Theme_Keyword: Sample Location Theme_Keyword: Shale Place: Place_Keyword_Thesaurus: Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys Place_Keyword: Cook Inlet Place_Keyword: Cook Inlet Basin Place_Keyword: Iliamna Quadrangle Place_Keyword: Iniskin Peninsula Place_Keyword: Seldovia Quadrangle Stratum: Stratum_Keyword_Thesaurus: Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys Stratum_Keyword: Chisik Conglomerate Member Stratum_Keyword: Kaguyak Formation Stratum_Keyword: Naknek Formation Stratum_Keyword: Pomeroy Arkose Member Stratum_Keyword: Snug Harbor Member Stratum_Keyword: West Foreland Formation Temporal: Temporal_Keyword_Thesaurus: Walker, J.D., Geissman, J.W., Bowring, S.A, and Babcock, L.E., comp., 2012, Geologic Time Scale v. 4.0: Geological Society of America Temporal_Keyword: Cretaceous Temporal_Keyword: Jurassic Temporal_Keyword: Mesozoic Temporal_Keyword: Tertiary Access_Constraints: This report, map, and/or dataset is available directly from the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (see contact information below). Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: Mercury injection capillary pressure analysis - Samples were submitted to PetroTech Associates, Houston, TX for mercury injection capillary pressure analysis. Following receipt of the samples, a representative portion of each was trimmed to fit the sample holders and examined under reflected light microscopy to note any irregularities that might affect the data quality. The rock surfaces were cleaned of any mold or dust and the samples then dried to a constant weight in a low temperature oven before being analyzed. During capillary pressure testing , the volume of mercury injected was measured at 118 pressure points from 1.64 to 59,500 psia. These data were then corrected for closure. The "closure" volume is the amount of mercury intrusion that occurs as the mercury conforms to the sample surface, filling any irregularities, prior to entering the pore system. The resultant data and comparative plots are provided in this data release.
