This publication provides mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP) data for 36 outcrop samples collected from the Kaguyak, Naknek, and West Foreland formations in the Iniskin Peninsula region of Cook Inlet. The publication files provide: sample names, coordinates, and the formation from which samples were collected; per-sample pore aperture size distribution charts; formation pore volume graphs and data; pore system properties of each formation from which samples were analyzed; and correspondence from PetroTech Associates describing the methods used in MICP analyses of the samples, and a brief summary of the data
This publication provides mercury injection capillary pressure data for 36 outcrop samples collected from the Kaguyak, Naknek, and West Foreland formations in the Iniskin Peninsula region of Cook Inlet. It was produced as product of the Cook Inlet basin analysis program. The Cook Inlet program is aimed at developing a better understanding of the near-margin stratigraphic and structural components of the Cook Inlet petroleum system

For the tables and figures in the report, the samples are separated into three groups: (1) the Kaguyak Formation, Saddle Mountain area, (2) Naknek Formation, lower sandstone member, and (3) the remaining Naknek Formation samples (Chisik Conglomerate, Pomeroy, and Snug Harbor Siltstone) and a West Foreland Formation sample

This publication is intended to provide timely release of raw field and analytical data. The results, methodology, and data labels provided by PetroTech Associates have not been reviewed by DGGS staff to assess the accuracy of the data or to standardize formation names and labeling throughout the files. In cases where samples were collected from measured sections, we provide the coordinates of the base of the measured section.

The PetroTech Associates lab was able to analyze all of the MICP samples that were submitted.
Location coordinates were obtained using handheld GPS units with a typical error of 7 m or less. In cases where samples were collected from measured sections, we provide the coordinates of the base of the measured section.
Mercury injection capillary pressure analysis - Samples were submitted to PetroTech Associates, Houston, TX for mercury injection capillary pressure analysis. Following receipt of the samples, a representative portion of each was trimmed to fit the sample holders and examined under reflected light microscopy to note any irregularities that might affect the data quality. The rock surfaces were cleaned of any mold or dust and the samples then dried to a constant weight in a low temperature oven before being analyzed. During capillary pressure testing , the volume of mercury injected was measured at 118 pressure points from 1.64 to 59,500 psia. These data were then corrected for closure. The "closure" volume is the amount of mercury intrusion that occurs as the mercury conforms to the sample surface, filling any irregularities, prior to entering the pore system. The resultant data and comparative plots are provided in this data release.
