This is a Point data set.
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.00001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.00001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in Decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is World Geodetic System of 1984.
The ellipsoid used is World Geodetic System of 1984.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378137.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/298.25722210088.

The purpose of this data release is to document the sample ID, latitude, longitude, location description, pH, and cation and anion chemistry results of water samples near Chiginagak volcano.
Lamothe, P.J., Meier, A.L., and Wilson, S.A., 2002, The determination of forty-four elements in aqueous samples by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, in Analytical methods for chemical Analysis of Geologic and other Material, ed. Attribute values listed in the final table were checked for consistency by cross-referencing field data sheets and laboratory chemical results as well as plotting the locations in ArcGIS software. Usage note: This spreadsheet has been optimized for use with MS Excel. Users who may be interested working with this data with other software should be prepared to resolve numerous errors relating to attribute field names that are longer than ten characters, data fields containing both text and numeric characters, and data fields that may not import correctly.
Horizontal positions (latitude and longitude) were determined with handheld GPS receivers. Although in most cases latitude and longitude are given in decimal degrees to 5 decimal places, the accuracy of this position is likely more coarse, as a GPS station may have been taken 20 meters or more from the exact site in the stream where the water sample was actually taken. Users reoccupying the sampling sites should use care to read the location description information to determine what stream corresponds to what sample site, especially near confluences.
Conductivity, pH, temperature, and chemical samples were not collected at all sites. At some sites, only pH paper was available, thus a range of pH is given versus sites where pH was taken with a digital pH meter. In the latter case, pH is given to the nearest 1/10th.
