Unconsolidated deposits include glacial, glaciofluvial, alluvial, eluvial, and coastal beach sediments of Pleistocene and recent age, with locally exposed older buried beach deposits. Igneous rocks are represented by a granitic aplite sill. Metaigneous units include metagranitic and metagranodioritic sills. Metasedimentary rocks comprise interbedded marble and schist, calcareous schist, quartzite-schist assemblages, marble units, graphitic and calcareous schist, and greenstone sills, many of which display gradational contacts and lithologic variability previously assigned to the Nome Group. The map provides detailed lithologic and structural information to support geologic interpretation and mineral investigations within the quadrangle. The dataset provides geologic, structural, stratigraphic, and geochronologic information organized according to the GeMS and AK GeMS mapping schemas. The complete report, geodatabase, and ESRI fonts and style files are available from the DGGS website: https://dggs.alaska.gov/pubs/id/13141.
<purpose>The map supports geologic interpretation, mineral investigations, and regional geologic studies by illustrating lithologic variability, stratigraphic relationships, and structural features within the quadrangle.</purpose><supplinf>This geodatabase is organized according to the AK GeMS mapping schema Hendricks, M.D., Macpherson, A.E., Athey, J.E., Wyatt, W.C., Montayne, Simone, Buchanan, Wes, Rivera, P.G., and Steinleitner, A.M., 2024, AK GeMS data dictionary: A description of the Alaska geologic mapping schema: Alaska Division of Geological &amp; Geophysical Surveys Miscellaneous Publication 170 v. 2, 13 p. https://doi.org/10.14509/31172. Fieldwork included detailed observation and description of lithologies, stratigraphic contacts, structural features, and geomorphic relationships. Rock units were examined and classified based on mineralogy, texture, and weathering characteristics, and gradational contacts were traced and recorded where present. Unconsolidated deposits were mapped using surface morphology, sediment characteristics, and relative age indicators. Field data were compiled with existing geologic information to delineate unit boundaries and produce a preliminary geologic map at 1:63,360 scale. Final map compilation included organizing lithologic descriptions, standardizing unit terminology, and preparing the map layout for publication.</procdesc><procdate>1962</procdate></procstep><procstep><procdesc>Data packaging - DGGS organized and attributed the geologic and geographic features according to the AK GeMS schema, then programmatically transformed the data into four distribution formats: (1) an AK GeMS data package containing the full database and supporting files, (2) a GeMS data package converted to the USGS base standard, (3) a SQLite database file, and (4) a simplified shapefile package with shapefile representations of the data.</procdesc><procdate>2026</procdate></procstep></lineage></dataqual><spdoinfo><direct>vector</direct></spdoinfo><spref><horizsys><planar><gridsys><gridsysn>Universal Transverse Mercator</gridsysn><utm><utmzone>3</utmzone><transmer><sfctrmer>0.999600</sfctrmer><longcm>-165</longcm><latprjo>0</latprjo><feast>500000.000000</feast><fnorth>0</fnorth></transmer></utm></gridsys><planci><plance>coordinate pair</plance><coordrep><absres>.00000001</absres><ordres>.00000001</ordres></coordrep><plandu>Meters</plandu></planci></planar><geodetic><horizdn>NAD27</horizdn><ellips>Clarke 1866</ellips><semiaxis>6378206.4</semiaxis><denflat>294.9786982</denflat></geodetic></horizsys></spref><eainfo><detailed><enttyp><enttypl>nome_c1_quad_ak_gems_db_pkg</enttypl><enttypd>Geodatabase, layer files, style files, and fonts</enttypd><enttypds>DGGS and USGS</enttypds><ealname>nome_c1_quad_ak_gems_db_pkg</ealname></enttyp></detailed><detailed><enttyp><enttypl>nome_c1_quad_gems_db_pkg</enttypl><enttypd>Geodatabase, layer files, style files, and fonts</enttypd><enttypds>DGGS and USGS</enttypds><ealname>nome_c1_quad_gems_db_pkg</ealname></enttyp></detailed><detailed><enttyp><enttypl>nome_c1_quad_gems_geopackage</enttypl><enttypd>SQLite Database file</enttypd><enttypds>DGGS and USGS</enttypds><ealname>nome_c1_quad_gems_geopackage</ealname></enttyp></detailed><detailed><enttyp><enttypl>nome_c1_quad_gems_shapefile</enttypl><enttypd>Shapefiles and open data files</enttypd><enttypds>DGGS and USGS</enttypds><ealname>nome_c1_quad_gems_shapefile</ealname></enttyp></detailed></eainfo><distinfo><distrib><cntinfo><cntorgp><cntorg>Alaska Division of Geological &amp; Geophysical Surveys</cntorg></cntorgp><cntpos>Metadata Manager</cntpos><cntaddr><addrtype>mailing and physical</addrtype><address>3354 College Road</address><city>Fairbanks</city><state>AK</state><postal>99709-3707</postal><country>USA</country></cntaddr><cntvoice>(907)451-5020</cntvoice><cntfax>(907)451-5050</cntfax><cntemail>dggspubs@alaska.gov</cntemail><hours>8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, except State holidays</hours><cntinst>Please view our website (https://www.dggs.alaska.gov) for the latest information on available data.
