This is a point data set.
Horizontal positions are specified in geographic coordinates, that is, latitude and longitude. Latitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Longitudes are given to the nearest 0.000001. Latitude and longitude values are specified in decimal degrees.
The horizontal datum used is North American Datum of 1927.
The ellipsoid used is Clarke 1866.
The semi-major axis of the ellipsoid used is 6378206.4.
The flattening of the ellipsoid used is 1/294.9786982.
Generic example of a sample identifier: YYAAA9999X: YY=last two digits of year, AAA=geologist's initials (one to three characters), 9999=unique station number, X= optional alpha character which indicates that multiple samples were collected at a given location or that multiple observations were recorded in the project database. All samples were collected by M.B. Werdon.

Fieldwork was performed to evaluate the mineral-resource potential of a block of State land near the mouth of William Henry Creek, and to investigate reported rare-earth-element, uranium, and thorium mineral occurrences on adjacent Tongass National Forest land. This fieldwork and sampling was conducted as part of the State's Rare Earth Element and Strategic Minerals Assessment project, which is designed to evaluate Alaska's potential for these resources.
All geochemical, major-oxide, minor-oxide, trace-element, and rare-earth-element analyses were conducted by Actlabs. Analytical methods and detection limits are listed in attribute definitions. In addition to the internal quality-control program at Actlabs, DGGS monitored analysis quality by inserting igneous-rock and REE standards of known composition into the sample roster for every sample batch.
Location data were downloaded from Garmin eTrex Legend HCx GPS units into a Microsoft 2007 Access database. Sample points were plotted into ArcGIS and visually examined to verify accuracy.
This dataset contains all of the analysis for major-oxide, minor-oxide, trace-element, and rare-earth-element geochemistry complete at the time of publication for all samples collected in the William Henry Bay area during August 2011.
