Geologists traversed the map area to collect analytical samples of rock and ash and examine and map the existence and extent of lava flows, lahars, tephras, fumaroles, debris avalanches, and other geologically significant features.</procdesc><srcused>Drewes, H.F. and others, 1961</srcused><srcused>Nye, C.J. and others, 1984</srcused><procdate>1996</procdate></procstep><procstep><procdesc>Geologic map compilation - Field data were digitized from Mylar geologic field map compilations in 1996 and 1983. These compilations were done on a one-to-one scale, stable Mylar of the USGS topographic base for the 1:63,360 scale USGS topographic bases included in the map area. Field data were assimilated with regional geologic mapping and prior DGGS detailed mapping of the Makushin geothermal areas. Map unit delineations and stratigraphic interpretations were supported by whole-rock major-oxide and trace-element geochemistry, as well as 40Ar/39Ar and radiocarbon geochronology.
