Value | Definition |
---|---|
0 | caldera rim |
10 | Area likely to be affected by pyroclastic flows and surges during small- to moderate-sized eruptions, and maximum likely runout of large debris avalanches. |
40 | Maximum extent of pyroclastic flows that could occur during a large eruption similar to caldera-forming events that occurred ~9,400 years ago |
The information required to determine areas likely to be affected by pyroclastic flows and the surge ranges was derived from many sources. A comprehensive list of references is provided in the accompanying report.

This report is part of a series of volcano hazard assessments being prepared by the Alaska Volcano Observatory. The reports are intended to describe the nature of volcanic hazards at Alaska volcanoes and show the extent of hazardous areas with maps, photographs, and other appropriate illustrations. The reports are preliminary and subject to revision as new data become available.

Data sources used in this process:
These geospatial data files replicate figures provided in the accompanying report. They are intended to be used for solely for illustrative purposes. The report and figures were reviewed by several geologists familiar with the subject matter. We incorporated the reviewers' suggestions into the final draft.
The cell size of the 2-arc-second NED data in Alaska is approximately 60 meters horizontally. Based on the digitizing scale and uncertainties in interpretation of the shaded relief image, the estimated horizontal accuracy of the lines likely in the range of 180 meters
This dataset depicts visible and interpreted features that are distinguishable at a scale of 1:500,000. The reader is cautioned that these files are solely intended to provide general guidance and to facilitate communication.
