Abstract

Almost one half of Canada's total land surface is underlain by permafrost and its existence has manyimplications to both scientific and engineering interests. Engineering experience has indicated thatsite investigations are essential in permafrost areas but no standard method for reporting permafrostconditions has been used or is available. This booklet has been prepared with the hope that the descriptivesystem outlined will fulfil this need.
