The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) is launching its fifth annual Alaska Radon Poster Contest! We invite all students ages 9-14 to submit their artwork for consideration in this year's contest. The full guide for poster topics and guidelines can be found on the Alaska Radon Poster Contest Entry Form. First place winner will receive a $100 gift card from Michael's, along with a gift card of equal value for their classroom. Second place receives a $75 gift card, and third place a $50 gift card. The deadline for submission is January 30, 2026, with winners to be announced in January during National Radon Awareness Month. Good luck!
Students may be enrolled in public, private, territorial, tribal, DoD, or home school, or part of a sponsored club like scouts or 4H.
The Alaska Radon Poster Contest serves to raise awareness of the harmful effects of elevated levels of indoor radon gas and promote testing and mitigation of indoor radon. By participating in this activity, students will learn about radon and how to reduce their risk of exposure.
The Alaska Radon Poster Contest is sponsored by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS), UAF Cooperative Extension, American Lung Association in Alaska, and National Extension Healthy Homes Partnership, with support from the EPA's State Indoor Radon Grant to Alaska's Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Air Quality. This grant is implemented through a partnership of DGGS and UAF Cooperative Extension.
Images of posters submitted through this contest may be used by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys and program partners for radon outreach and education.
Posters must be submitted by January 30, 2026. Winners will be announced February 13, 2026. First place winners will also be entered in the National Radon Poster Contest, organized and sponsored by the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors and American Lung Association, with support from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We encourage all registrants to submit the National Entry Form with their Alaska poster entry.
