Description:
Alaska has significant potential for the underground storage of carbon dioxide. Initial estimates suggest it has the greatest storage capacity on the west coast of North America. Decades of hydrocarbon exploration have produced a myriad of public data, including well log information, seismic data, and drilling cores that can be used to further refine site specific analysis. In 2024, Governor Dunleavy signed House Bill 50 into law, enabling DNR to lease the State's pore space for underground carbon storage and empowering the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC) to regulate carbon injection.
