A tide staff was installed at Chignik Lake in 2017, on a power pole that had been flooded previously. The staff is geodetically referenced so that future flooding can be measured relative to past events. Funding to install equipment was provided by Alaska Sea Grant and Alaska Ocean Observing System. The install was a collaboration between DGGS, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Bristol Bay Native Association, Alaska Sea Grant, and the NWS Alaska Pacific River Forecast Center.
A real-time sensor was also placed at Chignik River, downstream of Chignik Lake.
